06 November Friday NAS Museum Hangar Dance
The NAS Museum will also hold a "Hangar Dance" the evening before the parade (Friday 06 November) beginning at 7 PM (1900). The dance will feature a swing band, cash bar and snack type food items. Advance tickets are $12.50, or at the door, $15.00. We will have more details including how to purchase advance tickets in October Anchor Line and this web site.
The accompanying photos? In their "spare time" the NAS Museum members have restored one aircraft, are working on two more, and a Patrol Torpedo Fast Boat (PTF 3) built in 1962. The PTF Class boats were authorized by President John F. Kennedy, and the first wooden boats built sine WW II. The PTF's, including PTF 3 saw extensive duty in Viet Nam with Special Operations Forces. PTF 3 had been underwater for years, and all Military equipment stripped. The museum's goal is full operational and Military restoration. PTF 3 will be berthed in Sanford upon completion. Well Done! to the NAS Museum for taking these projects on and their great progress to date.

Members of the Daytona Beach Area Council participated in the 48th annual Home Show Exposition held at the newly expanded Ocean Center October 23-25. Our booth had a professional look, thanks to a display provided by National Headquarters, and a Coast Guard safe boating display provided by Council President Harry Munns, an Officer in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The Colors of the Sea Services, our Council banner, and three video displays completed the booth. Sponsored by the Daytona-Beach News Journal and Pilot Club of Daytona Beach, this years event drew a record 25,000 visitors over the three days. The News-Journal donated the space for our booth, and we are profoundly grateful for the opportunity.
Members who "worked the booth" are confident we will gain new members, and definitely made more people aware of the Navy League, our mission, and the important facts that we are a civilian organization, support all the Sea Services, and that prior Military Service is not at all necessary for membership. The event required time, effort and creativity, but "all hands" who worked believe the results were worthwhile.
We are also grateful to Royal Electronics of Port Orange and Carter's Family Rent-All, Holly Hill, for providing video equipment and tables.
A big THANK YOU and WELL DONE to Ray Huther, Hal Butts Terry O'Donnell, Don Wix, Jack Stimis, Harriet & By Byington, Ted Turowski of St. Augustine Council, Gary Hartman, Lew Slaughter, Chas Folcik, Bob Morrison, Margaret Russo, Edna Sullivan, and Bill Dale who did a great job telling the Navy League story to the public. Special THANKS to Ed D'Hondt and Bob Traetts, who, in addition to long hours at the show also helped with the display set up on Thursday and packing it all away Sunday afternoon.
