May Navy League Board Meeting

David Austin, the new President of the Naval Aviation Club gave a presentation at the May Board Meeting.  He showed pictures of their trip to the Vidalia Air Show.  Capt Leenhouts was the speaker and the club had their picture taken with one of the Blue Angels planes and the crew.

ERAU NROTC Commissioning

Captain Mark Leary, Commanding Officer, welcomed family, friends, Shipmates and several Navy Leaguers to the second summer Commissioning Ceremony for three new Navy Ensigns, graduates of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's NROTC Battalion.  Captain and Mrs. Leary will be our honored guests for the Navy Birthday Ball at HRYC on 17 October.  Prior to assuming command of NROTC earlier this year, Captain Leary was CO of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.

Ensigns Eric Dittman, Meaghan Greany and Troy Tillson are all headed to NAS Pensacola for flight training.  Dittman and Tillson were enlisted Sailors who earned their degree and commission through the Navy's "Sailors to Admirals" program.

Guest of honor was RADM Mark H. Buzby, USN.  A highlight of RADM Buzby's distinguished career was command of the best ship in the Navy, our own USS Carney DDG 64.  Then CDR Buzby was CO for Carney's  first Persian Gulf deployment during which Carney earned two Battle Efficiency awards, and the Navy Unit Commendation.

We congratulate Ensigns Dittman, Greany and Tillson and their families for their achievement, and wish all Fair Winds and Following Seas throughout their Navy careers

Deland Veterans' Day Parade November 2009

Along with our Sea Cadets and Daytona Beach Navy Recruiters, our Council again participated in the DeLand Veterans Day parade on 7 November.  It was truly a great day in DeLand, with a huge outpouring of support and appreciation to Veterans and active duty Armed Forces members.  Coast Guard Station Ponce Inlet and ERAU-NROTC Drill Team were also in the parade, so the organizations we support were well represented.

Thanks to Ed D'Hondt, Bob Traetta, Bob LeBlanc, Bill Dale and Ray Huther for decorating the "float" and to our "chauffeurs" Jack Stimis, Don Wix, Chas Folcik, and brand new member Fred Kunz for providing the convertibles.  Also thank you and Well Done to Angela McLean and her Sea Cadet staff.  The Cadets looked sharp, and special thanks to the two youngsters who were "voluntold" to carry our Navy League banner.
