Lunch Meeting with the Carney - April 2009
President Harry Munns and 8 other members enjoyed a luncheon meeting with CDR Brendan R. McLane, CO; LCDR Barry C. Palmer, XO; and CMDCM (SW/AW) Ross A. Kramer of USS Carney DDG 64, our adopted ship. Site was the Stonewood Grill in Jacksonville Beach. Bob Traetta selected the restaurant (which was excellent) because of the attractive young lady in the close up photo with Bob. She is Rebecca Woods, Managing Partner. Also grand daughter of a very proud Bob Traetta! We thank the CO, XO and CMDCM for taking the time to meet with us and bring us up to date on Carney's achievments.
We're pleased to announce Sailors from Carney will be our guests for the 18 September luncheon at Halifax River Yacht Club! Mark your calendars now to enjoy some time with the fine young men and women of USS Carney, the warriors who bring "505 feet of American fighting steel" to life.

USS CARNEY UPDATE
Another award for the Carney..The Retention Excellence Award for 2008. One of the achievements is 100% of her Senior Sailors (10-14 years service) re-enlisted for 2008. Now that's a Happy Ship and it shows the pride of the crew with the Carney. HOO-YAH Carney!!!!!!
The Sailors of the quarter are:
Junior Sailor of the Quarter - FC2(SW) Kyle Weiss
Sailor of the Quarter - FC1(SW) Andrew Ball
Bluejacket of the Quarter - ET3(SW) Brent Howard
Congratulation's from your Daytona Beach Navy League Council.
The Carney also hosted three Argentine distinguished visitors last Dec. 15th. They were given tours by CMDR Brendon McLane of the Combat Information Center (CIC), the Carney's Bridge Resources and the Pilot House. The guests were suprised that female enlisted sailors would be on assignment on the Carney.
Sea Cadets at Daytona Cubs Game
The Daytona Cubs were once again kind enough to allow us to set up a table in the concession area of Jackie Robinson Ballpark to promote membership in the Navy League and our golf tourney 13 June. Bob Traetta, Mike and Janet Marnane and Walt Thrush represented our Council, and this year were joined by Angela McLean, other Sea Cadet parents and our own Daytona Division Sea Cadets. The Cadet Color Guard presented the Colors for the National Anthem before the game.and other Sea Cadets rendered honors along the third base line as the Anthem was played.
The Daytona Cubs truly "give back" to the community. The Cubs players wore pink uniforms in support of the Susan G. Koman cancer fund. The entire team also was on hand to sign autographs for the large crowd in attendance. The Cubs and Florida State League teams play great baseball. The major leagues and Hall of Fame are filled with athletes who played in historic Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Let's thank the Cubs in a meaningful way by reserving now for our Cubs game, picnic and Fireworks! on 30 May at 5:30, and visit "the Jack" often during the summer!

WELL DONE to Angela McLean, Brandon Porthouse, the other adult leaders and parents, and especially the young Sea Cadets. Members of our Council should be proud of and deserve thanks for supporting Marine and Navy recruiters, Coast Guard Station Ponce Inlet, ERAU NROTC and USS Carney DDG 64. We should be especially proud of our support to the Sea Cadets. Many of these young people will not enter the Military, but all are exposed to the concepts of self discipline, courtesy and achievement. If you have not been to any functions involving the Sea Cadets, you owe it to yourselves to do so in the future. We have made an excellent investment in our Country with these fine young people.
